sweet, sweet storage solutions . . .
1. Vintage Suitcase, 2. Crocheted baskets--my 26th Explore!, 3. Untitled, 4. this morning; cleaning up in the tin cupboard
i am an inveterate hoarder of things, and so are my little and not so little ones. but we like order, and not just any order, but pretty, interesting, imaginative order.
so . . . i'm always looking for sweet, fun, unusual ways to reuse old things to store other things in, and i find there's no better place to go for inspiration than the lovely photostreams of my talented flickr friends. . . . just click on the links above to be transported to these positive goldmines of ideas . . . -- and have a wonderful time exploring . . .
(ps don't you just love that tiny craft suitcase? i just picked one of these up in a charity shop, -it is so adorable- and now i know how we will be using it!)
don't stay up all night looking!

turquoise: the new black?
so, what do you think? it's everywhere (including all over my house, but i made those decisions several years ago . . . ) so . . .is turquoise the new black?! let me know!
nighty-night,

in the garden
so we finally did the potting yesterday, and i love all the color. this morning, the sunlight was so perfectly golden, and the air so fresh after the weekend rain and wind -- all in all, a glorious morning. i can't wait to put this old table and thrifted chairs to use again -- i think i won't wait for dinner -- maybe i'll work outside this morning.
lovely.
have a perfect day . . . x lynn-anne

highlights from high point
my quick trip to the high point market was perfect -- these are a few of the lovely things
i found there yesterday; jamie young company's always perfect lighting, kevin o'brien's imaginative linens and textiles, madegoods' spectacular mirrors, new morrocan tables, and stunning pendants, and blissstudios perfect furnishings and accessories (check out those rock crystal hearts!), and so many other gorgeous things i was too busy to photograph . . . and, i got to meet and re-greet a lot of amazing people from terrific companies, and i even brought home a few 'market samples' -- i wish i had gotten more!

this is teddy's room, a tiny under-the-eaves, cottage-y space. like all kids' rooms should be, it's thrifty (hand me down furniture, osborne & little space linens and shades from his big brother's little boy room, tag sale red rolling cart and thrift store blanket), "green" (see hand me down, above, and the vintage star signage, and handmade things), it's bright and fun to be in (no explanation needed!), and it's reflective of the child's life (teddy's art is on the wall, his books are in his red cart, and he chose the color - orange is his favorite!) . . . let me know what you think :) and thanks!

here comes the sun, little darling
wythe blue room

here comes the sun, so frumpy family room, begone . . .
it's so easy to add zest with fab thrifted finds -- like here, with just
. . .a couple of tablecloths (one vintage, one newer) swagged over hooks at the top of the window,
. . .a lemony pillow from a mass market retailer,
. . . and a brightly granny chic knitted throw (2.99!! - why DO people get rid of these???) tucked around a plain mitchell gold square chair cushion,
you can bring some sunny sparkle to a so-so space . . . :) smile. it's spring. here comes the sun, little darling.
so spring-y
1. Dosie Imagery, 2. as the sun sets the friends come out to play, 3. tweet, 4. tumble tuesday, 5. The black sheep of the family, 6. Mother Goose, tea and tarts, 7. Jadite Alice teacups & Easter chick, 8. Spring has Sprung, 9. GO OUTSIDE
just some bright, inspiring stuff to brighten up a monday morning . . .

the art of the display

. . . mantles seem to stump a lot of people . . . they are such a focal point, a 'shelf' that everyone looks at, that i think people are a little worried that what they do won't be right, but it's really not that hard -- so i thought i'd offer a couple of suggestions for mantles, the art of the display~
first, find something you love - an anchor for the grouping, a mirror, or a piece of art
second, look around for some things that echo shapes, or motifs, or colors, or textures in your focal point
third, work a little with your things -- develop some symmetry, then shake it up a little .. . . you can do it ~ good luck!

i posted this picture to my flickr acccount tonight, and i thought i'd share it here, too. the light was sort of interesting, and teddy was zooming around chasing the dogs and generally being rowdy -- i was busy redoing this room and tidying away toys. all this creativity was sparked by my discovery in a small town target store of the out-of-stock chinoise yellow toile silk pillows i blogged about last week . . . . fun.

kid heaven: a swinging chair
so, over the weekend i posted a bunch of pictures of caroline's room, including this one, to my flickr photostream, and i have been surprised and amazed by how much people seem to like it. the 'star' (besides the quilt, of course) seems to be that swinging chair.
henry likes to sleep underneath it. anyway, this swinging chair is from habitat in the u.k., and is sadly no longer available. but there is an alternative -- ikea's very affordable svinga chair, which swings like mad. just look at teddy swinging this morning on one of the two we have hanging in our back porch . . .
don't you wish you had one? i had a hammock (from habitat) in my room when i was little, and i remember it quite fondly.
