with a lantern in the fireplace, a kilim sofa from west elm, an antique farm table well used by our kiddos and many before them, and a couple of french empire chairs, shabby but delicious, from my favorite charlotte consignment shop .. and the afternoon light. perfect.

a few days ago, we were here: robin hood's bay, on the northeast coast of england -- formerly a cosy cove for smugglers and pirates, but today more likely to host families and dog walkers. lovely (although deceptive -- when i snapped this photo, it was a slightly quieter moment on a squally, wet, and windy day).
